About

Beachy Books

Beachy Books is an independent book publisher based on the Isle of Wight.

We publish ‘Jack and Boo’ children’s books inspiring children to have fun, imagine and learn in nature. Jack and Boo books have appealed to pre-school  and primary age children up to Key Stage 1.

Beachy Books now offers private publishing to clients such as schools, community groups, or individuals. We are not a traditional publisher, so if you have the next Great British Novel, or a celebrity biography, then it might be best to send your book to a literary agent or larger publisher.

Beachy Books is best for short run books that we can supply to you at cost prices for specific purposes, campaigns, or to sell for your own fundraising, or anything with a local Isle of Wight interest.

History

Beachy Books was established by Philip Bell in 2009 to publish his first picture book called Jack and Boo’s Bucket of Treasures. The book was a labour of love and captured the fun days out on the beach with his young children, and featured real photos, colourful illustrations and poetic prose.

Philip won a Writing Magazine Children’s Publishing award and has been published in several magazines and short story collections. During his career, he has worked as a computer programmer for London banks, designed interactive Who Wants To Be a Millionaire for ITV, created services for SKY’s interactive shopping channel, and written copy for Microsoft. He’s even worked a stint as a librarian in a rural village. He is currently a copywriter and technical author for a IT company while running Beachy Books.

Philip’s story for young children, Bedtime at the Lighthouse, was chosen by former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen (see winners here), to be included in the Mumsnet/Walker Books – The Book of Bedtime Stories. This is what Walker Books said about the shortlisted authors.

Philip is working on new stories for publication including picture books, chapter books for young readers, short stories and novels for adults.
